DOUGLAS LEE HEIMGARTNER

Douglas Lee Heimgartner, 72, died Monday, March 16, 2015.  Doug was born March 3, 1943, to Leo and Wanetta Heimgartner in Lewiston.  He graduated from Lewiston High School, joined the National Guard and attended Washington State University.  He received his bachelor’s in business administration from Washington State University and became a certified public accountant soon thereafter.  He moved to Walla Walla where he began his career with Niemi Holland and Scott, later becoming a partner with the firm.

He married Patsy Dodd from Touchet, Wash., on July 24, 1976.  Doug’s only child, Gregory Lee Heimgartner, was born Oct. 17, 1979.  He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.  Doug’s dedication to his work was incredible and he especially enjoyed working with the region’s farmers.  He worked extensively on tax law and with the U.S. Congress on agricultural legislation in support of our nation’s farming community.  Doug was a 49-year member of Lewiston Elks Lodge No. 896 and an associate member of Walla Walla Elks Lodge No. 287.

Doug is survived by his companion, Patsy; his son, Greg; and two brothers, Louis Heimgartner (Alice) of Lewiston and Larry Heimgartner (Debbie) of Wilmington, Calif.  He is also survived by one niece, Jody Meling (David) of Walla Walla; and one nephew, Scott Heimgartner of Lewiston.  Doug also had numerous great-nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Viewing and visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 Alder St., Walla Walla.  The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home followed by a reception to be held at the Walla Walla Elks Lodge No. 287, 351 E. Rose St., Walla Walla.  Interment will be private.
