Former Lewiston resident Karen Knutson Rutherford, 62 years old, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 13, 2006 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Azle, Texas, due to heart failure. She was born September 10, 1943, in Kenmare, N.D., to Hjalmer and Jessie Knutson. She spent her first 10 years on her parents’ farm, subsequently relocating to Lewiston.

She had many occupations throughout her life, including beautician, home health nurse, and finally as furniture restorer/reseller. She had an incredible artistic talent that reflected her love for family and home. Those who knew her will remember how she gave completely of herself in everything she did. They will also remember her ability to laugh at herself and help us see humor in our most difficult situations. She worked tirelessly and loved fully to the last minutes of her life.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Donovan Knutson of Lewiston; sister Helen Kelly of Camarillo, Calif,; and her son, Tod Maugh of Auburn, Wash. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Sam Rutherford of Azle, Texas; and four children. Daughters include Terianne Broyles of Sumner, Wash., Sheri Baker of Bellingham, Wash., and Kourtney Rutherford of New York City. Bill Maugh of Azle, Texas is her surviving son. Grandchildren include Dylan Broyles, Jordan and Jonathan Baker, and Matisse Maugh. Surviving brothers include Duane and David Knutson of Rio Linda, Calif., and Dale Knutson of Clarkston. Surviving sisters include Donna Johnson and Mary Ellen Raspone of Lewiston, Lola Limbaugh of Federal Way, Wash., and Charlotte Arnone of Eagle, Idaho.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m,. Wednesday, and the funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Powers Funeral Home, 320 West Pioneer Ave., Puyallup, Wash., followed by a graveside service at Woodbine Cemetery, Puyallup.
