RICHARD D. OLIVER

Richard Dan Oliver, regional director of hunter education for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, died of cancer at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002. He was 59.
He was born in Enterprise, Ore., June 12, 1943, to Dan Edward and Esther Mae Landers Oliver. He graduated from Lewiston High School and attended Lewis-Clark State College. Richard served in the U.S. Army for three years. He worked for the Lewiston Detention Center for eight years and had been employed with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game for seven years at the time of his death. Some earlier jobs were with Bell Equipment and Opportunities Unlimited.
He had been married to LaFawn Hamm and Marilyn McCrimmon. Richard and Judith Stewart were married May 10, 1994. She survives at their home in Lewiston. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and volunteered with Fish and Game, Boy Scouts of America and the American Red Cross. He was a Shriner and a certified EMT.
In addition to his wife, survivors include seven sons, Rick Dyer and Dan Oliver, both of Clarkston, Jim Hamman, Bob Oliver and Chris Oliver, all of Lewiston, Toby Dyer of Nampa, and Kevin Oliver of Spokane; two daughters, Kelly Katzenberger of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jodie Dyer of Lewiston; his mother Esther Stephenson of Wallowa, Ore.; his father Dan Oliver of Walla Walla; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Erma and Emmett Landers and Guy and Mable Oliver.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. The funeral is at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 16th and Ripon in Lewiston. The burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. in Avon, Idaho. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Darlene Kidder, 2130 Sunset Drive, Lewiston.
