David W. Barton, 59, passed away in Scottsdale, Ariz., Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002. Born in Provo, Utah, Feb. 27, 1943, he grew up in Lewiston. During his high school years, he lettered in three sports, baseball, basketball and football. He received the Outstanding Athlete Award and many honors throughout high school and college. Dave served in the Air Force Chaplaincy on active duty and in active reserve duty, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1997.

He moved to Phoenix in 1986. He was in the active healing ministry as a Christian Science practitioner since 1975 and a teacher since 1997. Dave served the First Church of Christ Scientist, Boston, in the administrative capacity of committee on publication for both Idaho and Arizona for more than 15 years. He was a distinguished community leader. He was active in the Scottsdale Leadership Program, Motorola Community Outreach Program, board member of the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley YMCA, past president of Scottsdale Friends of the Library, president of the Board of Directors of New Song Center for Grieving Children and Those Who Love Them, and president of the Paradise Manor Homeowners Association. He was also a member of the board of directors of Second Church of Christ Scientist-Phoenix, the Arizona Chaplains Association and the Greater Phoenix Ecumenical Council.

Dave loved family, children, golfing, fishing and hiking the Grand Canyon.

He will be missed by family and friends especially for his warm and friendly smile

and compassionate care.
